The Super Mario Bros. Movie Thread, now with cosplay!

Postby LBD_Nytetrayn » Mon Aug 16, 2010 5:41 am

Hope Ian doesn't mind this, but the full story is here.

The long and the short of it: if you've been having a hard time finding the Super Mario Bros. movie on DVD, it may get a little easier, as there has apparently been a new printing of the movie.

However, all that's really been changed is the box. No special features, the making-of isn't included, and they didn't even fix the widescreen.

But, if you want what is basically the Mario equivalent of SatAM Sonic (only much less revered), then you may now have your chance.

It's not that rare is it? I've owned a copy of it for several months now, and there were several copies alongside the one I bought in HMV.

Why would someone want to own this crapy movie?
This movie is an insult to the Mario series.

I still think that Captain Lou should have played Mario in the movie.

Couple of weeks ago, I noticed my dvd was getting worn out. Would skip several seconds every few minutes, so I decided on my next trip out, I'd get another copy.
When I got home, I immediately noticed that the title and subtitle of "It's a Blast!" had been switched on the cover. But like the article says, aside from the cover, it's the exact same product.
That's right, I bought a second copy. I've owned the VHS, then the DVD, and now a SECOND DVD to replace my old one. I'm not ashamed.

One of the only things we have ever agreed on.

... But honestly, I'm glad that they're reissuing the movie for people that want it. It beats having to pay an exorbitant price for an out of print DVD.

Heck, maybe I'll get it for riffing purposes. I'll put it right next to my copy of "The Wizard".

That's funny, I thought I just saw it in a store a few weeks ago. Although they had a lot of old movies in there...

And I own it on VHS. Think it was the first movie I ever got, possibly (christmas or birthday present.) I actually liked it too, though I haven't seen it in years... I also have the single by Roxanne from this movie on a cassette somewhere ("Almost Unreal." Because this is what I think of when I think of Mario: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9prliKZ_x_s) Anyhoo...

Is this movie that hard to find? I saw a copy of it at the F.Y.E. at my mall about a month ago, that was selling for about $9.00.

Maybe it depends on where you are. I don't think I'd seen one in person until a friend in the States got a copy for me a few years ago.

I enjoy the movie, though. It's neat as an AU take on the Mario mythos...

...and is arguably more loyal to its source material than Sonic SatAM was. ;P

I don't know about that. At the time that Satam cameout, the Sonic games were still fairly new. At the time the Mario movie cameout, there had already been quite a few Mario games, plus the cartoons.

And the movie works in far more elements and references than SatAM, even if some come across in strange ways.

Like the Donkey Kong reference at the end of the movie. Mario vs. Devo'd Scapelli.

What do you mean the Mario equivalent of SatAM?
I mean, the Mario film was actually entertaining!

Although having not seen the film in question I am unaware of this statement's level of accuracy, I nonetheless find it hilarious.
