|
|
Howdy folks! I just got the ok to drop some info on the upcoming Sonic Encyclopedia. It's still very much in the works, so I can't really get into too much detail yet. Still - I know how much y'all like teaser info, sooooo . . .
- It's basically a giant book of Data Files. Tons and tons of canonical info.
- That said, there will be no direct reprints, so it's not like you'll be re-buying old entries.
- I'm writing it, top to bottom, start to finish. To make sure this gets done right I am personally re-reading the entire series and taking extensive notes.
- I will try to work-in, include and justify just about every little bit of trivia I can. Plot holes will be filled. Inconsistencies will be paved over (read: explained/ignored). This will be the end-all, be-all basis for the books' canon.
- This puppy is going to weigh in at well-over 100 pages. It shall be beefy!
- Right now we're looking at a Holiday Season 2009 release date, but that can change. Pencil it in on your Christmas list for now. (Holiday List for you PC-types).
- Since we don't want it to be immediately out-dated, there will be a fair number of reveals for early concepts and behind-the-scenes thinking/notes. Short of being on the staff, you really can't get more inside the book than with this.
Aaaaaaaand I think I've spilled enough beans.

Christmas gift 09!
Seriously, I'm so gonna ask for this for Christmas. I'm such a geek to be 21 years old...yet I'm currently wearing a tie...I'm so confused! _________________

Wow, that sounds like exactly what I was hoping for!
I never was really big into the Data Files (mostly because of their vagueness and occasional inconsistencies), but I'm totally all about this book as long as you're overseeing it. I think this will answer a lot of our lingering questions about those pesky plot holes. You have my thumbs-up, sir.
Are you at liberty to say who's doing the art yet, or is that more along the lines of "bean spilling"? |

Very impressive!
But a question:
Will it be sold at local comic shops/stores, or does it have to be ordered from Archie comics? |

*hits refresh on Amazon waiting for it to show on pre-orders* XD~
Seriously though it's long about due for release on this kind of thing. Marvel and DC just about pop out one of these every third Tuesday and Sonic needs his canon put down on paper for simple reasons of CANON... ness. o0;

| I wounder if it will have stats like power, speed, and fighting skill levels. I wouldn't want to see any numbers but a loose chart would be nice. |

I honestly don't know the entire list. I'm pretty sure Spaz, Steve Butler and Tracy Yardley will be contributing, but don't quote me on that.

Nary a clue at this point.
| Arbiter0416 wrote: | | Will it be sold at local comic shops/stores, or does it have to be ordered from Archie comics? |
I would assume it'd be at your local comic retailer. If they don't have it first day, I'm sure they can order it for you.
| Fairfieldfencer wrote: | | Will the newer characters like Blaze and Omega have datafiles as well? |
I don't want to confirm who gets what, where and/or how, but Blaze and Omega will be in there in some shape or form.
Pretty much anyone who's been in the Prime-verse is all but guaranteed to show up. Other Zones are iffy, but I'd really like it if we could put a nod in to every canon that we can. We'll see what we can manage.
Although I might as well disappoint folks now: no Sonic X material. It's not my call, it's not Archie's call, it just is. So no Bokkun or El Gran Gordo.
BUT - Remington's full origin, as much Brotherhood backstory I can cram in there, and a revised world map would make up for that - right? |

I'm liking everything I'm hearing Ian! Things sound great so far, I like how you'll definitely be answering some questions and plot-holes, as well as these things:

I'll be sure to mark it on my list, this is a must have. |

Are you planning to have a section of where each issue fits into each other? When I put my books into binders, I try to put them in chronological order, i.e.; I put Sonic Kidz 2 before Sonic Firsts, and it would be awesome to know which specials, miniseries, etc. goes between which issues. _________________ Proud PSWii60 owner!!!! |

Speaking of the mini-series a thought just occurred to me. Ian, when you said that you were rereading the entire series, does that include the various Mini-Series, Specials, Super Specials, Knuckles the Echidna, and the hopefully highly successful Sonic Universe series? _________________ "We call ourselves the Q, or thou mayst call me that." -Encounter at Farpoint, Q
